Do Not Pay For Recovery services! ❌ Better free options exist!

There’s a number of websites around there masquerading as help or “coaching services” asking for monthly fees. I’m here to tell you, do not pay them!

Often times your insurance covers in and out patient services as well if that’s what you need to get better. Additionally, your individual state probably has a problem gambling service that’s provided for free as well.

Simply Google: " ‘your state’ problem gambling" and the resource you’re looking for will come up.
Example) California Problem Gambling Resource
In that example, California even offers Residential Treatment Facilities and Intensive Outpatient Treatment as a cost free option.

I say all of this as someone who’s personally called 1-800-GAMBLER and had 24 free in-person sessions to help counsel me from Problem Gambling services. They helped talk me through my problems and get me on the path to recovery, quickly and efficiently.

You should not have to pay for recovery services period.

Good post! I almost fell for one of these. They wanted $50 for some pdfs and garbage.

Amen!!! I’ll add that faith is one of those things that are free and lead to recovery. Your local church is here for you when you’re ready.

I’m glad this post has resonated with people so far. I’m continually surprised when I come across resources asking people who are suffering for money. It’s so sad. Help should always be free.

Thanks for this information. I almost started paying for counseling services but ended up getting it completely free from 1-800-Gambler. I totally am thankful I came upon this!

TIL that California pays for in-patient and outpatient treatment for free. That is pretty huge in itself.
